Not many people can claim to have been a professional ballerina before “leaping” into a career in information security, but my journey has been as unique as my skill set!

Although I no longer wear pointe shoes to work, I have leveraged the discipline and determination I learned in the dance studio to become an accomplished, results-driven IT leader. I currently serve as the Chief Security Officer of Elevate Credit, focusing on building security programs that align with business objectives and compliance drivers to reduce the risk of business disruption, financial loss, or brand damage from a cyber-attack.

Having worked with organizations to champion best practices for security operations, training, communication, and data protection, I have developed a unique ability to translate technical solutions to non-technical audiences. My communication skills have been an indispensable skillset, especially in an age when the threat landscape continues to evolve, and executives and customers need to make informed decisions about their information security program. I take a people-centric approach to information security management by focusing on education and awareness to fortify a company’s greatest defense: it’s people.

With over 24 years in the IT industry, I began my career with Perot Systems (now NTT Data) leading global IT teams and was a founding member of Perot Systems Mexico. I also held positions in new business development, data center operations, and IT communications. Prior to my role at Elevate, I served as the Chief Information Security Officer at Commercial Metals Company (CMC), where I built a comprehensive security program from the ground up to protect critical systems on business and Operational Technology (OT) networks at more than 230 sites worldwide.

I have had the privilege of being recognized for my work as a top female technology leader, as honoree of the 2020 Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Technology Awards, and look forward to championing and mentoring more women in the IT and security space. I hold a B.S. in Business, HR Management, and am a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Though I’ve since hung up my pointe shoes, I continue to be a proud “dance mom” to my sons, who serendipitously chose to study classical ballet. Ryan is a professional danseur with Colorado Ballet in Denver, and Ben currently studies dance at Booker T. Washington School of the Performing and Visual Arts in Downtown Dallas.
